At FTT DeFi on the 12th July, 700+ innovators and creators came together to challenge the established thinking, and the establishment, when it comes to the future of financial services and beyond.
At the event, Laura Camplisson (Product and Content Manager at VC Innovations) interviewed Genevieve Leveille, the Principal Founder and CEO of AgriLedger. Genevieve built the AgriLedger solution using blockchain, to enable greater trust and transparency in the agricultural value chain, by tracking and tracing products and commodities throughout their journey.
They spoke about the transformative impact DeFi could have on developing economies, how blockchain and DLT technology can be leveraged to de-risk markets, and what else needs to be done before the financial services industry is ready to fully embrace decentralization.
Genevieve notes that recent events in the P2P, BNPL and Crypto spaces have highlighted the need for far greater regulation and consumer protection of DeFi, “we need as an industry, to regulate ourselves first, rather than waiting,” she warns.
Genevieve also touched on the role that digital identity will play in the future, as AgriLedger, and more widely the DeFi sector itself, continue to evolve . “Until we have a government accepting those blockchain identities, we still have a risk,” Genevieve explains, “We’re going to have to do KYC, Web3 is going to need to have identity as part of it. And there’s so many great brains working on this.”
