Future of digital banking and fintech partnerships
We had the pleasure of catching up with Martin Sladecek from Komerční Banka, a key player in the Czech banking sector, to discuss digital strategies and innovation in financial services. With experience spanning both Prague and Paris, Martin now focuses on shaping the future of banking through cutting-edge digital initiatives.
One of the companies he highlighted when reflecting on developments over the past year was OneID. OneID is a digital identity verification service that leverages bank-verified data and open banking to allow users prove their identity in the UK. He compared what they provide to the success of the Czech Bank ID model.
As a co-founder of the Czech system, Martin shared his excitement about seeing similar product rolling out in the UK, making everyday transactions smoother and more secure for consumers. With the majority of Czech citizens already using Bank ID for tasks like switching banks, updating utility providers, and accessing government services, the impact on efficiency and security is clear.
Martin also touched on the evolving role of ClearBank, a provider catering to neo-banks and fintechs. With its latest push to secure an EU license in the Netherlands, its next moves will be closely watched by industry players—including Komerční Banka—as both a source of inspiration and competition.
