(Re) Building a Bank, a Fireside Chat with Hans Brown, Global Head of Enterprise Innovation and Global Chief Information Officer for Corporate Technology at BNY Mellon and Lianna Brindad, Head of Yahoo Finance UK
In case you missed Hans Brown, and Lianna Brindad discussing how to bring both change and continuity to a 236 year old institution, it is now available on demand. It is a fascinating discussion and as Brown notes, BNY Mellon has stood the test of time and events – from the birth of the United States to the proposed colonisation of space.
However, there is no time to stand still and Brown shares how the journey to ensure the enterprise is truly digital is one which both excites him and keeps him awake at night.
Attitudes have been changing rapidly but were pushed forward by necessity given the challenges of the current crisis. As an organisation he notes that BNY Mellon were able to accelerate given the work they had done to date. The short-order pivot to allow a workforce of 1000s to work from home whilst continuing to serve clients at the same level of speed and effectiveness, though challenging, demonstrated the results. The tools, capability and attitudes were in place and that perhaps would not have been the case five or six years ago.
Hans Brown also topped our poll for the favourite Mainstage quote with “Innovation has to happen everywhere)” (AKA it is not just about nice chairs).
Brown is eminently quotable, my personal favourite, as a reflection on failure and learning, is “this way there be dragons, this way there be gold…” listen to the full interview now to hear more. Also, keep an eye out for updates on FTT Virtual North America returning on March 24, 2021.
