What is iProov – what problem are you solving?

At iProov, we assure genuine presence using face and palm biometrics.

How do you trust that the remote user is who they claim to be? Or even a real person at all?

With an increase in remote digital transactions, comes an increase in vulnerability to both users and organisations.

We empower individuals online to assert that they are the right person, a real person and are genuinely present right now. Our high-security solutions create trust between customer and organisation without a laborious high effort process for the user.

Biometrics are such a huge trend in security and financial services – what sets iProov apart?

Biometrics are a highly secure and simple way to assert your identity. However, using biometrics in remote transactions, such as an online banking app, creates a huge issue of trust. An organisation needs to be sure the biometric presented is legitimate and that the right user is interacting with their service.

At iProov, we are solely focused on creating this guarantee. iProov is a zero effort solution, which does not require the user to perform complicated actions. Secure authentication takes place on the server, de-risking the user from compromised or lost devices.

We defend against photos and masks, and unlike any other solution in the market, we protect our users from the likes of deepfake video and replay attacks.

How do you answer some of the privacy concerns around biometrics – especially with the facial recognition?

We are not in the business of facial recognition, although it is a reasonable mistake to make. Facial recognition refers to surveillance with crowds, with no direct benefit to the individual and without their consent. At iProov, we allow users to assert their identity effortlessly with their consent – we are in the business of face verification.

We are fully GDPR compliant. All the data we receive is anonymised. We receive only images of faces, with no further information about that face.

For our privacy-concerned users, we developed iProov Palm Verifier. User comfort is a top priority and giving users the choice to use an anonymous biometric was a very important step for us.

What advice would you give new startups in this space? 

Find a burning problem you can solve and believe in its value. There are a lot of big problems out there that need to be solved and it is astonishing to see just how hard large incumbents find it to address them.
