An audience member stood up to ask a question of the opening panel of the PowerCARD User Conference organised by HPS in Marrakesh last week. The panel, which featured Abdeslam Alaoui Smaili, CEO of HPS, and Jeroen Holscher, head of global payments practice, Capgemini, focused on new trends in the payments arena. The talk touched

Wednesday 06 March 2019
by Lisa Moyle
This International Women’s Day we decided to highlight some of our awesome Steering Committee members. We wanted to find out what they thought of robots, hear about some of the great projects they are working on as well as see whether the dreams they had as little girls match the professional lives they live today.

The disruptive power of ladies voices

This week a Facebook memory popped up at me. Five years ago, I was at Mobile World Congress – that annual mobile bun fight extravaganza in sunny Barcelona. I was due to interview a client of the company I was working with. He was older, a bit paunchy and American (hey, so am I). Before

Embrace the grey!

“Don’t worry, I won’t hold your age against you.” This was said to me almost two years ago in the London office of a global bank for an internal comms role. I was 45 years old. <== Huh? It is quite some time before I qualify for a bus pass in the UK and I

Cyber Security, Mental Health and Culture

Mental well-being may not be the first thing you think of when discussing cyber threats or innovation in financial services. However, I had the privilege of sitting in on a fascinating and very important panel discussion earlier this week at a cyber security conference which highlighted the importance of mental health. As noted by the session’s chair, Geoff McDonald,

Olympic parks have had a chequered history throughout the modern games. Many have been left to rot, some have almost bankrupted their host nations, while others are built on, enhanced and expanded. I am working from a co-working space, housed within the former Press Centre of the 2012 London Summer Games as I type. The

Can you engineer serendipity?

Sometime in the spring of 1995, I attended my first ever industry event at the New York Hilton. FinTech, as a word, was barely used (outside of our little office in Soho). The trade show was filled with trading turrets and real-time market data vendors. There were panel sessions, keynotes address and several floors of exhibitors.

Thursday 10 January 2019
by Lisa Moyle
The 2019 FinTECHTalents Steering Committee is ready to roll with a Bigger, Braver, Bolder, Tech-ier Festival experience. Many on our Steering Committee were with us from the start – when FinTECHTalents was just an idea to bring the full FinTech ecosystem under one roof. Many more have joined us on our journey to highlight financial

What is your Holiday Wish for 2019?
Wednesday 12 December 2018
by Lisa Moyle
It’s that time of year again, when we all get asked to share our ‘predictions’. I always pause when I get asked, because I feel ‘predictions’ are different from ‘wishes’ or ‘actions’. There’s much I ‘predict’, which I don’t wish to come true. So instead of predictions – we at VC innovations – want to
FinTECHTalents – Reasons to be Thankful
Thursday 22 November 2018

Today is a day of Thanksgiving in the good old US of A. Many Americans will sit down to roast turkey, pumpkin pie and questionable politics. However, you do not need to be ‘American’ to find reasons to be thankful this year. So, let’s cast off worries about Brexit, forgive those times your bank took
