On 12th July our community came together for the launch of FTT DeFi, the one-day show where we explored the key opportunities and challenges in decentralised finance, digital assets, the metaverse and Web 3.

During the day, our Future Identity Portfolio Lead Laura Camplisson sat down with Emanuele Colonnella, Innovation Activation Manager at Generali, one of Europe’s top insurance companies. Emanuele works in Generali’s innovation team, helping the rest of the organisation to accelerate innovation through training and funding.

They discussed the opportunities the metaverse brings to the insurance industry and the role insurers can play in the space. “With the advent of these new digital world insurance can play a role in terms of protecting digital assets, but  also protecting the impacts in the real world,” Emanuel explains, such as, “the business interactions of companies operating in the metaverse and protecting the lives of e-gamers.”

Emanuele highlights that there are still many unknowns and underdeveloped areas when it comes to the metaverse and the decentralized finance universe more widely, but that, “the only way to protect yourself against the future is to be part of it and help shape it.”
