Starting with the fundamentals: The Three Amigos
Mohamed Ait Si Brahim, Group Chief Technology Officer at Hargreaves Lansdown, heading an engineering team of 20o people tasked with building products, sat down with us at the 2024 FTT Fintech Festival. He shared his approach to both his role and, more broadly, creating effective outcomes.
When it comes to technology, Mohamed takes the Three Amigos approach – product, business and tech – and thrives on bringing those three groups together around shared objectives. As he notes, it’s rarely a technology problem for technology’s sake and aligning those three groups has always been his passion.
A virtual picnic of ideas
Mohamed also walked us through the Picnic approach – problem in chair not computer. More often than not, as he describes, the business objectives and strategies don’t lie in technology. They start with how you get the business together and how you architect your business to ensure that the people you have are true enablers for the chosen strategy.
Often he challenges his team to identify if it’s a picnic problem or something else. 99% of the time the problem can be solved by understanding if your team is effectively skilled and able to work collaboratively.
When it comes to measuring outcomes, it’s really about the business and clients/customers. That is what really matters. Are your clients happy and satisfied?

The role of technology in delivering better outcomes for end users is a key theme at our upcoming events on 13th May – FTT Embedded Finance & Super-Apps, FTT Payments, and Customer Alpha, where the customer reigns supreme.
It is also a fundamental theme at what will feature in the 7th edition of the FTT Fintech Festival on the 10th & 11th November.
