Emma Maconick, Partner, Shearman & Sterling joins us for our ongoing series – FTT Chats – where we sit down with the great and the good of FinTech to discuss innovation, new entrants, and emerging technologies.
A masterclass on the complex terrain of data usage, protection, ethical practices and the regulatory landscape. This is one interview where you gain a lot of actionable information and a broad overview of issues to consider for any business handing and responsible for the protection of customer data.
Emma Maconick brings broad experience of the technology sector and the evolving regulatory landscape across the EU, UK and US. We discussed a range of fascinating topics – including product design and diversity of thinking. As Maconick makes clear with regards to the US regulatory landscape ‘it’s complicated’ but her insight is illuminating.
Thinking about the future of the regulation in the US and what to consider “If you are building a program that’s going to be targeting the United States build it this way in advance and then you don’t have to do retrofitting . There is nothing worse than retrofitting. Developers don’t like having to rebuild old things they want new and shiny. So build new and shiny along these lines”
The Open Finance landscape is also complicated but customer demand and competitive dynamics will meet regulatory blockers head on.
