Alistair McQueen, Head of Savings & Retirement at Aviva PLC joins us for our ongoing series – FTT Chats – where we sit down with the great and the good of FinTech to discuss innovation, new entrants, and emerging technologies.
In this FTT Chat, McQueen discusses supporting customers in their retirement with better language, the potential of digital technologies to bridge the savings gap and planning for a population that is living longer and better.
“The good news is that we are living longer,” says McQueen. “This year happens to be the hundredth anniversary of the British monarchy sending telegrams to people on their 100th birthday. One hundred years ago it was King George V, … he sent twenty-four telegrams. This year the Queen will send more than ten thousand telegrams to people celebrating their 100th birthdays. So life expectancy has been transformed over the past century, but we’ve fallen out of love with the need to save and we love spending so that’s not a good place to be, living longer but not saving enough.”
